# Installing Sograyim for Word

Sograyim (סוגריים) finds `{reference}` placeholders in your Word document — like `{Deuteronomy
10:12}` — and replaces them with the real source text. This guide gets you from "I have the
add-in file" to "it's working in Word."

## 1. Open the installation link / file

You received either a link or a `manifest.xml` file from the seller. Save it somewhere you can
find it (e.g. your Desktop) — you'll need to point Word at it in step 3.

> If Sograyim is listed on Microsoft AppSource at the time you're reading this, you can instead
> search for "Sograyim" directly inside Word (step 2 → "Add-ins" → "More Add-ins") and install it
> from there with one click, with no file to manage. Ask the seller which method applies to you.

## 2. Open Microsoft Word

Open Word (desktop or web) and open the document you want to work in.

## 3. Add Sograyim to the ribbon

- Go to the **Insert** tab → **Add-ins** → **My Add-ins**.
- Choose **Upload My Add-in** (sometimes shown as "Upload My Add-in..." or a small upload icon).
- Browse to the `manifest.xml` file from step 1 and select it.
- Word adds a **Cite Sources** button to the **Home** tab.

## 4. Open the task pane

Click the **Cite Sources** button on the Home tab. A pane opens on the right side of Word — this
is where everything happens.

## 5. Enter your license

**Source search works immediately, with no activation code** — you can search for a source by
name or by its text and open it for reading on Sefaria right away. An activation code is only
needed for inserting sources into your document, automatic detection of references, and AI
features ("Plus").

The first time you open the pane, you'll see a license screen. Enter the activation code you
received from the seller and click **הפעל רישיון** (Activate). You only need to do this once per
computer.

## 6. AI features (optional)

Sograyim works fully without this — source lookup is always free once activated. If you also want
AI-powered features (summaries, filling in ambiguous references), open **Settings** in the pane
and connect your own API key for Gemini, Anthropic, or OpenAI. This step is optional and can be
skipped entirely.

## 7. Verify it's working

In your document, type:

```
{Deuteronomy 10:12}
```

Open the Sograyim pane and click **סרוק** (Scan). Within a couple of seconds the placeholder
should be replaced with the actual verse text. If that happens, you're fully set up.

## 8. Uninstalling

See the separate **uninstall-guide.md** included in this package — it takes under a minute and
doesn't require contacting support.
